We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Geospatial Urban Big Data to support the analysis of urban dynamics and decision-making in territorial planning. The candidate must be proficient in GIS tools, data science techniques, and spatial analysis to leverage big data from cities and model their evolution.Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Collect, clean, and structure large volumes of urban geospatial data.
  • Design and implement spatial models and analyses to explore urban dynamics (growth, accessibility, density, etc.).
  • Develop interactive tools or dashboards to visualize results and support decision- making.
  • Collaborate with urban planners, local authorities, and other researchers to translate data into public policy.
  • Contribute to designing research projects or responding to international project calls.
  • Participate in scientific publication and dissemination of results to policymakers and communities.
Required Qualifications:
  • PhD in geomatics, data science, computer science, urban engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Specialization or prior work on African cities or developing territories is a major asset.
  • Advanced proficiency in GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS) and open spatial data platforms (OpenStreetMap, Copernicus, Google Earth Engine, etc.).
  • Experience in processing, integrating, and visualizing large urban datasets (mobility, environment, infrastructure, demographics, etc.).
  • Programming skills for data science (Python, R, SQL, PostGIS, GeoPandas, etc.).
  • Knowledge of urban models and spatial analysis tools (urban growth models, accessibility, change detection, etc.).
  • Ability to work with multisource data (IoT, sensors, satellite images, social media, administrative data).
  • Understanding of urban planning issues (urban forms, basic services, sustainability, resilience).
Personal and Organizational Qualities:
  • Ability to transform complex data into actionable insights for research and decision- making.
  • Capability to produce high-level publications and present research findings at international conferences.
  • Commitment to research excellence.
  • Interest in African issues.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, dynamism, organizational skills.
  • Full professional proficiency in both French and English, oral and written, is required.
